The UAL Level 3 Diploma and Extended Diploma in Creative Media Production and Technology is a two-year course designed to provide you with a broad knowledge base and help you develop skills in film, audio and print production in preparation for progression to a higher education course or a career within the industry.
The course will introduce to a range of media, including filmmaking, online publishing, podcasting, and interactive design. You will cover the foundation skills needed for developing, researching, making, and evaluating a range of several types of media.
You will use a range of industry-standard software throughout the course, primarily the Adobe Creative Suite (Premiere Pro, Audition, After Effects, Photoshop and Illustrator). You will also explore audio production, cameras, lighting, and green screen work to produce high-quality productions.
What you'll learn
Year 1
You will be introduced to the fundamentals of the media and design industry, develop your research skills, and build on your video production, editing, and design skills, as well as scriptwriting and production planning.
Year 2
On the successful completion of Year 1, you will be invited to develop the skills and techniques you have learned in Year 2. You will have the chance to work from industry-standard briefs, which will teach you how to produce content for professional clients as you continue developing your professional skills and portfolio.
In addition to creative work, a significant amount of time is dedicated to extending your knowledge of the media industry and its opportunities. This is supplemented by group excursions to media companies and work experience opportunities with real clients to help boost your CV.

How you'll learn and be assessed
You will learn to research, plan, and produce a range of media productions, including music videos, adverts, stop-motion animation, documentary film making and magazine design. Theoretical analysis informs all areas of your practical work and provides insight into how media institutions analyse audiences and construct products for markets.
You will study for the Diploma in the first year of the course. Once that Diploma is successfully achieved, you will be invited to complete the full Extended Diploma in the second year of the course.
This course is 100% coursework, which means there are no exams. You will be assessed on a range of different assignments leading towards the Final Major Project which will give you your final mark for the year.
You will work both individually and in groups, and you need to be well-organised throughout the year. You will learn to become comfortable working collaboratively and presenting your ideas to the group. To create your productions, you will have full access to our equipment and studios, as well as workstations equipped with industry-standard production software.
Please note: Fees will apply if you are 19+ at the beginning of your studies in September and have previously completed a Level 3 qualification or are 24 and above. All fees are charged on a yearly basis. Please see our Fees Policy for further details or get in touch to discuss your options.
