Farnham Educational Foundation Scholarships, Grants, Awards and Prizes

Farnham College… rewarding your achievements!

Farnham College is pleased to offer current students, and applicants for the next academic year, a series of financial awards to support the achievement of their academic and professional goals, in partnership with the Farnham Educational Foundation (FEF):

▶ The McLaughlin Scholarships worth £500 per year for high-achieving students with a clear career aspiration. You can apply if you are a current student moving on to your second or third year of study, or if you have applied to start Farnham College in September

▶ The FEF Grant worth between £500-£1,500 each year to support students to reach their academic and career goals, by helping them with costs such as course equipment, travel and study opportunities

▶ The John Goddard Memorial Award worth £1,500 to enable a student to undertake a project, community or voluntary work, which otherwise may not be possible

Various prizes awarded at the end of the year to recognise outstanding achievement in specific subject areas and attitudes to learning

The Farnham Educational Foundation was established as a school in Farnham in the 16th century. It became a grammar school for boys in the 19th century and then a mixed sixth-form college in 1973. The campus is owned by a charitable foundation that is responsible to the Charity Commission.

McLaughlin Scholarships

The McLaughlin Scholarships are offered in memory of John McLaughlin, Deputy Headmaster of Farnham Grammar School from 1972 to 1973 and then Deputy Principal of Farnham College until 1992.

The McLaughlin Scholarships, worth £500 per year, are intended to support students' progress in each year of their course and towards clear career aspirations. Applicants do not need to demonstrate a specific purpose for the financial award; the scholarship is designed to recognise and reward the hard work of the students and to support them as they transition to college and on to university or a professional career.

There are five scholarships available for each year of study; normally five scholarships are available for year 1 students and a further five scholarships for year 2 students. Students will be able to apply for a scholarship in each year of their studies at Farnham College, providing they meet the eligibility criteria. This will include any students who may be going onto a third year of study at Farnham College.

The McLaughlin Scholarships are available to students who:

  • demonstrate clear goals and career aspirations
  • achieve outstanding grades at GCSE: six or more GCSEs at grades 7, 8, or 9
  • are going to study a one or two-year programme at Farnham College
  • maintain a minimum 90% prior year attendance at school or college

The above eligibility criteria are intended to ensure fairness in the allocation of the McLaughlin Scholarships. However, scholarship awards are offered at the sole discretion of the Farnham Educational Foundation. The Farnham Educational Foundation reserves the right to award scholarships, with reference to the criteria, as it sees fit.

Students are invited to apply for the McLaughlin Scholarships by completing this application form.

You can complete the application form if you are a current student moving on to your second or third year of study, or if you have applied to start Farnham College in September 2025.
