Always a creative child, Saffron knew she wanted to follow an artistic path since she was young. Good at art throughout school, Saffron was encouraged by her teachers and her parents to follow her heart and pursue her passion into further education.
Brought up just a few miles outside Farnham, across the border in Hampshire, Saffron went to look at a few college options before deciding that Farnham was the one for her.
“I actually went to two open events at Farnham College, a Saturday morning one and a weekday evening one, just to really get the vibe of the place”, says Saffron.
Having spent some time talking to the tutors and students and seeing examples of student artwork at the open events, it was the concept of the smaller class sizes at Farnham that clinched it for Saffron.
“I felt that I would really benefit from the one-to-one time you’d get with your teachers. I wanted a fresh start after school and the college just felt right for me. I felt at home immediately”.
Saffron applied to do three A Levels, Fine Art, Graphic Design and Geography and hasn’t looked back!
“I really enjoy coming to college, it’s so different to school and the staff are really supportive and encouraging which helps to build our confidence in our abilities. My teachers really push me to produce the best standard of work that I can, and I can really see a clear progression in the quality of my work from when I started”.
Saffron already knows that she wants to pursue a creative career and plans to complete an art foundation year at university before narrowing down a specialism.
Saffron says: “If you’re thinking about which college to apply for, my advice would be to go and see as many as you can, meet the teachers and see if the facilities are right for you. You’ll know which one feels ‘right’!”
