Farnham College, in collaboration with Farnham Town Football Club, is proposing to launch an exciting new Football Education Programme, if there is sufficient interest from the community.
The college is reaching out to parents and carers in the local area with young people currently in Year 11, to assess interest and determine if there will be enough demand to launch this exciting programme in September 2025.
This unique initiative would be designed to provide both educational and footballing opportunities for local players aged 16 to 18, allowing them to develop their skills on and off the pitch.
Students enrolled on the Football Education Programme would have access to the wide range of academic options at Farnham College, including A-Levels, BTECs, and T Levels, tailored to their interests and career aspirations.
Through this partnership, students aged 16-18 would have the opportunity to combine their academic studies with comprehensive football training and fitness development and this programme would be ideal for those aiming to develop as footballers while working toward a future in non-league football, US scholarships, or higher education in the UK.
Training twice a week, students on the programme would have also access to strength and conditioning sessions and would represent both Farnham College and Farnham Town Football Club in competitive matches throughout the academic year.
Neil Shoulder, Group Director of Farnham College, said: “”We would be thrilled to partner with Farnham Town Football Club to offer this exciting Football Education Programme if there is sufficient interest from the community.
“This initiative would provide a unique opportunity for students to combine full-time study with professional-level football training, ensuring they would have the skills and qualifications to succeed both on and off the pitch
“At Farnham College, we are committed to supporting young people in their personal and academic development, and we are very much hoping that, given enough local appetite for it, this programme would exemplify that objective.
“Whether students are aiming to pursue careers in football, secure scholarships abroad, or progress to higher education, we would be proud to offer them an exciting platform to achieve their goals.
“We’re calling on the community to let us know if this programme would interest their school leavers next year, either by attending our information event on October 21 or by completing our feedback form”.
Paul Tanner, CEO of Farnham Town Football Club said: “We would welcome the opportunity to partner with Farnham College on this exciting new venture. We believe that this would drive the community together and enhance the educational offering within the local area. If there is an appetite for such a programme, we would be proud to play a significant part in its success”.
