This qualification is designed to support learners who are interested in learning about the uniformed protective services sector. It gives them a broad basis of study, designed to support progression to higher education when taken as part of a programme of study that includes other appropriate BTEC Nationals or A Levels.
What you'll learn
The mandatory content allows learners to develop their skills and knowledge in discipline and teamwork and communication; areas that have been identified as essential in the sector.
Learners will also choose two optional units from a selection of units designed to support progression to a range of sector-related courses in higher education, and that link to relevant occupational areas, such as criminology and policing.
How you'll learn and be assessed
You will develop a range of highly transferable skills:
- Cognitive and problem-solving skills: using critical thinking, approaching non-routine problems applying expert and creative solutions, using systems and technology
- Interpersonal skills: communicating, working collaboratively, negotiating and influencing, self-presentation
- Intrapersonal skills: self-management, adaptability and resilience, self-monitoring and development
Assessment is designed to fit the purpose and objective of the qualification. It includes a range of assessment types and styles suited to vocational qualifications in the sector. There are two main forms of assessment that you need to be aware of: external and internal.
Progression
This qualification is intended to carry UCAS points and is recognised by higher-education providers as contributing to admission requirements for many protective services-related courses.
When combined with other qualifications in a two-year study programme, such as A Levels or another BTEC National qualification, learners can progress to higher education in a range of disciplines.
Entry requirements
You should have 5 GCSEs at grade 5 including English language and maths.
