This qualification is designed to support progression to higher education when taken as part of a programme of study that includes other appropriate BTEC Nationals or A Levels.
What you'll learn
Learners will study three mandatory units:
- Unit 1: Anatomy and Physiology
- Unit 2: Fitness Training and Programming for Health, Sport and Well-being
- Unit 3: Professional Development in the Sports Industry
Learners will also choose one optional unit from a range designed to support choices in progression to sports courses in higher education, and to link with relevant occupational areas.
How you'll learn and be assessed
You will develop a range of highly transferable skills:
cognitive and problem-solving skills: use critical thinking, approach non-routine
problems applying expert and creative solutions, using systems and technology
intrapersonal skills: communicating, working collaboratively, negotiating and
influencing, self-presentation
interpersonal skills: self-management, adaptability and resilience, self-monitoring and
development.
Assessment is specifically designed to fit the purpose and objective of the qualification. It includes a range of assessment types and styles suited to vocational qualifications in the sector. There are three main forms of assessment that you need to be aware of: external, internal and synoptic.
Entry requirements
You should have 5 GCSEs at grade including English Language and maths.
Additional information
The qualification carries UCAS points and is recognised by higher education providers as contributing to meeting admission requirements for many courses if taken alongside other qualifications as part of a two-year programme of study. It combines well with a large number of subjects and supports entry to higher education courses in a very wide range of disciplines.
